Henri Matisse – Landscape at Collioure

Henri Matisse (1869–1954) was a French artist and is considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He is particularly known for his colourful and abstract compositions, which often explore themes of movement, form and light. Matisse began his career as a painter in the naturalistic style, but gradually developed his own entirely unique and abstract approach that set itself apart from all other art of the time. He became a leading figure in the artistic movement known as Fauvism, a style characterised by the use of intense and playful colours.
